➖ Fabio Pisciotta
➖ Palermo / Italy 🇮🇹
My name is Fabio Pisciotta, I’m 52, I was born in Palermo, the city where I live.
I have always had a passion for photography, but it was in 2005 with the purchase of my first
digital camera that I discovered macro photography, a branch of beautiful and intriguing
photography, made of patience, details, depth of field, composition, light and backgrounds.
So I started documenting, I bought books, magazines and still I try to read everything on
the web about photography with a particular attention to the world of macro. Research,
study and experimentation is continuous, in short, you can never learn !!!
Macrophotography is above all technical and has its precise rules, such as the
reproduction ratio that must necessarily be 1: 1 or higher, so that the image has had
dimensions equal to or greater than the actual size of the subject. The subject must be
completely in focus and very clear to be able to see every detail and the background must
be blurred and possibly uniform so as to highlight the subject. But you know, the rules are
made to be broken, so after making the first photos respecting the canons of macro
photography, to avoid putting aside the macro equipment, I introduced to experiment with
new cuts, new compositions, new backgrounds, new ones shooting points. In my shots I
always try to combine detail and harmony, so as to have a good sharpness and a
composition that is pleasant even when I photograph subjects with little “appeal”.
For the realization of the shots using a Canon 5DIII or a Canon 7DII and two of the best,
my opinion, macro lenses, a Canon Macro and f 100mm f / 2.8 L IS USM, an incisive and
razor-sharp lens and a Sigma 180mm F / 3, 5 EX APO DG Macro Very clear HSM and
with which you can create a background, even at f16 / f18, which with other lenses is very
difficult to achieve. I also use remote shutter release to avoid micro-blur, reflective panels
and parasols for better light management, I also use a thin micrometer and plamps
(articulated arms) to hold the perch and take care of the composition.
All this to look for the charm, the beauty of the subject, at that moment I am recovering,
trying to capture those details that normally escape us. I hope that my photos occasionally
manage to convey the same emotions that I have, when I shoot.
